1867-1948
British actress Ada Palmer was born on this day in London. Palmer was primarily a stage actor in her time and appeared in only three films (that we know of). The first these was The Pursuit of Pamela; released in January of 1920 and based on the Chester Bailey Fernald play of the same name; directed by American ex-pat Harold Shaw, Edna Flugrath--who would go on to work in Hollywood--took the lead. In 1922, she next appeared in the comedy A Will and a Way, written by the important early female screenwriter Lydia Hayward (a Sheffield girl!). Her last film appearance came in the 1924 comedic short Lawyer Quince, comic actor Moore Marriott as Quince with adaptation for the screen again by Hayward (the film was a remake of a 1914 comedy based on a W.W. Jacobs story). The vast majority of Palmer's work was in West End musical theater. She passed away in Wimbledon at the age of 80 on the 5th of January in 1948, just 19 days before her 81st birthday. Given that there a scant details about her life, it stands to reason that information about her burial is nonexistent.
